We can all be a Hero by looking out for others
Having an exercise routine as part of each day helps me to feel better about everything else that I do in the day.
I think like any challenge that we take on in life, to be successful, it is really important to surround yourself with positive people that will energize you and help you to see a positive in every day.
The people who helped me most in my career are my coaches and team mates.
I am a bit old school in my approach, so I always think it is best to keep things simple and not rush things, it takes about 3 weeks to get used to something new in your life so if this is exercise then you need to be patient and persistent. It is a good idea to work out how much time you can commit to exercise then use this time efficiently and be productive with the time you set aside. It may mean a combination of walking and running to begin with, but you can increase the time running and less walking and will eventually cover more distance in less time. It’s good to feel like you are improving so time and distance are good measures of this.
Much like this, there is a great bond and strength amongst Breast cancer survivors and it is like a celebration of their fight against cancer when they turn up to run and walk in the Great Pink Run. It’s always fun to train and race with a supportive group around you who help to take the focus away when the intensity can be high. To challenge themselves, to do a fit and healthy activity to remind them why they fought so hard to be a part of such a great event and movement as the Great Pink Run.
About the Great Pink Run, I think this run is showcasing in America a concept that has been really successful in Ireland. There is a sharing of knowledge and research across countries and this information is shared with everyone that takes part and gets involved. Irish events always have a special warmth and energy around the world and even though it may take time to match the movement in Ireland once we get some momentum in Chicago, I hope this race can grow and become a close link with the events in Dublin and Kilkenny.
At the end, we can all be a Hero by looking out for others, sharing our experiences and knowledge and encourage others to persist when things get difficult. The greatest achievements are those that we have to work really hard to achieve success and overcome challenges along the way.
